Solar well in the village of Pitti Dibamba

The project objective is to raise awareness of sanitation, hygiene and the proper use of water through the construction of a solar-powered well and water supply in the village of Pitti Dibamba. This will ensure a sustainable supply of clean drinking water for the villagers. The project helps to raise awareness among the local population and has a positive impact on education, health and living standards.

Current situation:

The people of Pitti Dibamba face significant challenges in accessing safe drinking water. The village is mainly dependent on agriculture, livestock and fishing. There is no running water or electricity. The task of fetching water falls largely to the women. Together with their children, they often have to walk miles to fetch water, which is often of inferior quality. All this leads to malnutrition.  Water sources are sometimes contaminated, posing an immediate health hazard. Diseases can easily spread and even lead to death. Diarrheal diseases occur repeatedly in this region, which can lead to a high mortality rate among children. Without financial support, villagers cannot afford to drill and install deep wells to obtain clean water.

Our actions:**

TOOLS FOR LIFE is funding the construction of a solar-powered pumping well so that residents in the village of Pitti Dibamba have access to clean drinking water. The project is implemented by Bunong e.V. and the Cameroonian association Bunong Cameroun. Thanks to the new well project, the women and children in the village no longer have to travel long distances to fetch water. They now have constant access to clean water for daily use. This relieves the burden on them and the children can go to school regularly, which improves their education. The existence of the well makes life easier for women in particular, especially during the major dry season when water supply is a challenge.
The total project cost is €11,225, with the TOOLS FOR LIFE Foundation providing support of €9,315.

Conclusion:**

The goals of the project, such as the construction of a solar-powered well, the establishment of a management committee and a maintenance team, and the permanent supply of clean drinking water, were achieved. From the beginning to the end, the partner Bunong Cameroun, the village committee and the inhabitants were actively involved in the construction work. The villagers are very satisfied with the new water borehole and the quality of the water supplied. The project has helped to raise awareness of hygiene and the proper use of water and to improve the living conditions of the people in Pitti Dibamba.
