New Solar Power System at Twampane School in Chimfunshi

As Chimfunshi is located far from any public infrastructure, the supply of energy and water is completely self-sufficient – including for the school on the site. The Twampane School was founded in 2011 to provide access to education for the children of staff members and those from surrounding villages.

Today, around 240 children attend the school, taught by nine dedicated teachers. Since the abolition of government school fees in 2022, demand has increased significantly. As a result, new school buildings, a kindergarten, a preschool, and a science room have been constructed in recent years.

To meet the growing demand, an expansion of the existing solar power system was urgently needed. The previous system supplied only the original school building and was heavily overloaded. Through our support, an additional 10.2 kVA solar power system with battery storage was installed. It now provides reliable, clean energy for the new classrooms and enables modern teaching with digital learning tools such as laptops, projectors, and printers.

The new solar power system is more than a technical investment – it represents progress, sustainability, and equal opportunities. It not only improves learning conditions for 240 children and their teachers, but also strengthens awareness of renewable energy and environmental protection. Especially for girls and young women, it means better access to education, greater safety, and a more self-determined future.
