New cafeteria for Saint Augustin
At Saint Augustin in Thiès, 1,021 children aged 6 to 12 are learning – eager students full of energy and enthusiasm. But many of them spend the school day hungry and have to make the long journey home on an empty stomach. This not only affects their concentration in class, but also their health and well-being.
To address this problem, the school urgently needs a new canteen building. The plan is to build a kitchen area with a small washroom so that the children can receive a balanced meal every day. This would enable the school not only to fulfill its educational mandate, but also to make a valuable contribution to the children's nutrition and sustainable development.
Dr. Sandra Rothenberger reports: "During my visit to Senegal in April 2025, I had the opportunity to get to know the impressive academic community at École Saint Augustin. Led by headmistress Emmanuelle and supported by 18 dedicated teachers, the school is passionately committed to creating better learning and living conditions for the children. I would like to support this heartfelt project with donations from my birthday party this year, which has the motto ‘Donations instead of gifts’."
In fall 2025, our motivated team consisting of plumbing professional Josef Bock and civil engineer Robert Windischmann visited the site and, among other things, visited the school to get an idea of the progress made and to ensure the necessary support. Together with the school management, they were able to discuss concrete next steps for planning the canteen building and assess which infrastructure measures needed to be implemented most urgently. Their expertise is crucial to ensuring that the project can be implemented sustainably and professionally.
