Empowering women - shaping the future!
The ‘SheEmpowers’ project teaches young women in Bamenda, Cameroon, practical skills in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of solar systems as well as CCTV security and surveillance systems. The technical training is complemented by workshops on financial knowledge, business management and entrepreneurship. The aim is to make 30 participants fit for the labour market and strengthen their self-employment.
Why ‘SheEmpowers’ is important
In Cameroon, women have so far been poorly represented in technical professions - only 26% study STEM subjects. Economic and cultural barriers as well as the Anglophone crisis make access to education and employment even more difficult. At the same time, demand for solar energy is growing in Bamenda, primarily due to regular power outages, and for security technology due to increasing insecurity.
Creating opportunities and promoting sustainable development
The project aims to narrow the gender gap in technical professions and enable sustainable economic independence. The trained women not only improve their own prospects, but also help to strengthen the energy supply and security in their community.
Our vision
In the long term, ‘SheEmpowers’ will create a network of qualified female technicians who will serve as role models for future generations and pass on further knowledge. Together with our partners, we are laying the foundations for more equal opportunities and sustainable development in the region.
