Two-day workshop teaches practical life skills
From mid to late October, our TOOLS FOR LIFE ambassadors Ingried and Michael were once again in India visiting the women's rights organization Jagori Grameen. There, in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, they conducted two training sessions on car mechanics and electrical installation.
The workshops, each lasting two days, were attended by a total of 50 young women and men.
Initially, Ingried, Michael and Abha, one of the founders of Jagori, introduced the workshops and presented the agenda.
Afterwards, the participants were divided into two groups. One group was able to learn more about engines and car mechanics with Michael, while the other group learned about electrical installation with Ingried. On the second day, the groups switched.
In Michael's workshop, the participants learned about the structure of an engine and how certain parts (carburetor, spark plug, radiator, battery, etc.) can be removed and replaced.
In Ingried's workshop, participants learned the basics of electrical installation by building a plastic bottle light including wiring. Ingried also addressed the importance of a tidy workspace and precision in work because, according to Abha, many repairs in India are only "jugaad" temporary repairs.
Many of the participants, who were curious about the mechanical and electrical work, found the workshop so interesting that they want to continue their education in that direction.
