Sustainable source of light for young shepherds in Lesotho

With an average of 300 days of sunshine a year, the 60 young shepherds in Semonkong, a small village in the mountains of Lesotho, can make good use of the Burning Hearts. Many of the 60 young shepherds have lost their parents to HIV and, from the age of 5, tend the cattle herds of equally poor farmers for a meager wage. They spend most of their time alone with their herd in the high mountains. With the Burning Hearts they are able to find their way safely at night, to draw attention to themselves with the SOS signal in case of emergency and to work on their homework.
